ഒരു വർഷത്തെ കാലാവസ്ഥയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ പലതായി വിഭജിക്കുന്നതിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഋതു (ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്: Season). ഭൂമിയുടെ സൂര്യനുചുറ്റുമുള്ള പരിക്രമണവും ഭൂമിയുടെ ഭ്രമണാക്ഷത്തിന് ഭ്രമണതലവുമായുള്ള ചരിവുമാണ് ഋതുഭേദങ്ങൾക്ക് കാരണം.
ധ്രുവീയമേഖലയിലും ഉപധ്രുവീയ മേഖലയിലും പ്രധാനമായും നാല് ഋതുക്കളാണ് ഉള്ളത്.

ഭാരതീയ ദിനദർശിക അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ഭാരത്തിൽ ആറ് ഋതുക്കൾ ഉണ്ട്.

1}വസന്തം (Spring)- മാഘം, ഫാൽഗുനം എന്നീ മാസങ്ങൾ
(ഫെബ്രുവരി ഉത്തരാർധം, മാർച്, ഏപ്രിൽ പൂർവാർധം)

2}ഗ്രീഷ്മം (Summer)- ചൈത്രം, വൈശാഖം എന്നീ മാസങ്ങൾ (ഏപ്രിൽ ഉത്തരാർധം, മേയ്, ജൂൺ പൂർവാർധം)

3}വർഷം (Rainy) - ജ്യേഷ്ഠം, ആഷാഢം എന്നീ മാസങ്ങൾ (ജൂൺ ഉത്തരാർധം, ജുലൈ, ഓഗസ്റ്റ് പൂർവാർധം)

4}ശരദ് (Autumn) - ശ്രാവണം, ഭാദ്രപഥം എന്നീ മാസങ്ങൾ (ഓഗസ്റ്റ് ഉത്തരാർധം, സെപ്റ്റംബർ, ഒക്ടോബർ പൂർവാർധം)

5)ഹേമന്തം (pre-Winter) - ആശ്വിനം, കാർതികം എന്നീ മാസങ്ങൾ (ഒക്ടോബർ ഉത്തരാർധം, നവംബർ, ഡിസംബർ പൂർവാർധം)

6}ശിശിരം (Winter) - മാർ‌ഗശീർഷം, പൗഷം എന്നീ മാസങ്ങൾ (ഡിസംബർ ഉത്തരാർധം, ജനുവരി, ഫെബ്രുവരി പൂർവാർധം)

Ritu (Sanskrit: ऋतुः) means "season" in the Hindu calendar, and there are six ritus (also transliterated rutu) or Indian seasons. The word is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word Rtu, a fixed or appointed time, especially the proper time for sacrifice (yajna) or ritual in Vedic Religion; this in turn comes from the word Rta (ऋत), as used in Vedic Sanskrit literally means the "order or course of things".

there are six seasons (ritu), each lasting two months: Vasant (spring), Grishma (summer), Varsha (monsoon),Sharad (autumn), Hemant (pre-winter), and Shishir (winter).
