U must be knowing the story of Ramayana, and how Ram Setu bridge was created from Rameshwaram to Lanka. When Lord Ram went to Lanka with the monkey army, they crossed the ocean on a bridge of floating rocks. Many people do think that its just a story and how can a Rock float and people walk on the bridge made of floating rocks.
The floating rock present near Rameshwaram temple proves that there are rocks which can float. When you visit Laksman Teertham and Ram Teertham near the temple, where you can lifted a big rock. It was really heavy not less than 15 kg and still floating.
scientific name of a rock which has a property to float is Pumice. It is formed when lava and water are mixed. This unusual formation is due to the simultaneous actions of rapid cooling and rapid depressurization. The depressurization creates bubbles by lowering the solubility of gases dissolved in the lava. I don't know if the floating rock which i saw in Rameshwaram was Pumic or something else but it was floating.
